Fans of Gabrielle Roth will be thrilled to complete their collections with these early, brilliant albums. Gabrielle Roth & the Mirrors, known for pulsing heartbeat rhythms, combine shamanic drumming with an urban, contemporary edge. TOTEM is Roth's first album and the only one she didn't produce herself. Featuring six tracks of dance-trance music with an emphasis on drumming and percussion, it is clearly the most pop-music-oriented of the four albums. It is also a great introduction to the Mirror's style and a favorite of dancers and ritual workers. INITIATION is a well-plotted trip from stillness to ecstasy. The album is sequenced to raise the listener's energy level--a celebration of the body in motion. BONES is a loose collection of percussive hymns to sacred spirit animals. The raven, dolphin, deer, snake, and wolf are all represented and each is honored with a composition to their archetype. RITUAL is a departure from Roth's more aggressive albums.
