While these musical ingredients may be anathema to hardcore roots fans, Steel Pulse compensates for any shortcomings by infusing the taut, percolating rhythms the group perfected on HANDSWORTH REVOLUTION with a strong melodic sensibility, creating some of its most memorable songs in the process. The repeating chorus and tight-knit backing vocals of "Unseen Guest" are infectiously appealing, while the beautiful, powerful "Babylon Makes the Rules" employs a vocal intro that recalls South African township music.
