This traditional Irish four piece band's follow-up to their well-received self-titled debut brings a more diverse blend of traditional Gaelic songs, replete with fiddle, dobro, acoustic guitar, bouzouki, bhodran, and various tin whistles and flutes. More than the last album, the focus here is on fiddling. Aye and fiddling there be, in reels like "Ace and Deuce of Piping," "Stepping Stone" and "Green Blanket". Purists and fans of good old fashioned Irish music will be in heaven, as the recording style is clean but not slick or processed to the point where it sounds like a car commercial. Vocals come and go in Gaelic and English, sometimes singing, sometimes talking, as if one is hearing the band at a rural pub in some strange place between yesterday and today. The sound is cheerful and current yet full of the deep, profoundly mournful mood of the culture. This is the perfect soundtrack for an evening of traditional Irish dancing, or perhaps driving through an autumnal landscape on one's way home.
