Led by Miggs from the mind-blowing U.K. spaced-out black metal unit Anaal Nathrakh, Frost have become that band's mirror image. Moving on from their brilliant Cursed Again debut, Frost have moved into a territory all their own. Here, the sheer speed of black metal has been warped, turned inside out, and been expanded by a kind monstrous production standard that gives the word "heavy" a new prefix: "unbearably." Musically, Frost is the creation and execution of Miggs, vocally, both Fog and Shid alternate scaring the bejeezus out of the listener. Not a band to have embraced the cheesy keyboard textures of techno, Frost never attempt to stray from pure, scathing metal. Tempos might be a bit slower, but that is both purposeful and effective. On "Filthy Black Sh*t," elephantine riffs come cranking out of hell, allowing for a drum thud to come through the middle of the blackness and wrap itself around the throat of the listener before Fog pukes out the lyrics and a shattering sub-bass throb puts the whole thing over the gorge. Sounds, atmospherics, and aural dimension crisscross in the skronk and boil of exploded guitars and tank-loaded drums. There are nine cuts here of unrelenting punishment, pain, and gloriously insane rock & roll noise drenched in blackness, heresy, and hate. Gimme more. ~ Thom Jurek
