Dirty Old Town captures new millennium working-class hero Ted Leo and his Pharmacists doing what they do best, and that's delivering an energetic live show. Leo and his band compose a healthy dose of punk-inspired rock with more than enough fever and guts to outlast even the crowd in attendance, and in this case, director Justin Mitchell (Songs for Cassavetes) captures Leo performing in Coney Island, NY, at the Third Annual Siren Music Festival. Even on a hot day in mid-July, Leo and the Pharmacists play hard. Leo sings even harder and even though his voice appears strained during "2nd Ave., 11am" and "Biomusicology," it doesn't matter. Leo is having far too much fun. There's something for everyone on this DVD set; from the spirit-soaked "Where Have All the Rude Boys Gone?" to the 9/11 salute of "The High Party," Leo only wants to share his good time with the people. Bonus commentary in between songs from Leo himself, as well as many kind words from comedian David Cross, portrays Leo to be even more smart and charming than anything he's released up to this point. He's also a man content with his life's work. He's in his early thirties and having such a career, an independent one free of major-label politics, is exactly what Leo wants. He goes virtually unnoticed while strolling the Coney Island crowds. Proving further how genuine he is, he and the Pharmacists plug in to a generator run by a Starbucks van and play on during the Blackout of 2003. Chalk up "Stove By a Whale" as another sweaty rock moment from the band. Dirty Old Town couldn't have gotten it better. Ted Leo is really a nice guy. ~ MacKenzie Wilson

商品の紹介

New Jersey hardcore singer/songwriter Ted Leo performed live at Coney Island's 2003 Siren Festival, and director Justin Mitchell (SONGS FOR CASSAVETES) captured a day in the life of this politically-bent, talented musician, along with his band, the Pharmacists. Combining interviews with footage from the unique music festival, Mitchell gets to the heart of the inspiration and motivation for Leo's affecting, catchy rock.|
