BARAFUNDLE is the first domestically released album by gentle Welsh eccentrics Gorky's Zygotic Mynci. It is their fourth album overall, their fifth if one includes 1996's collection of album and EP tracks, INTRODUCING GORKY'S ZYGOTIC MYNCI. The Gorkys' music is somewhat more grounded in the real world than their often-spacey work has been in the past. The arrangements are still peppered with Jews' harps and crumhorns, the credits include citations for "legs in trousers" and "armpit noises", and a number of songs are in the band's mysteriously melodic native tongue.
The songs are more fully realised than before, featuring strong melodies, captivating harmonies, and a number of memorable choruses-especially on the High Llamas-like "Starmoonsun" and "Patio Sun". An expansive, quietly psychedelic vibe permeates BARAFUNDLE, making the Gorkys sound uncannily like the charming transatlantic cousins of America's own Olivia Tremor Control and Neutral Milk Hotel.|
