TWITCH is a 12-track 1985 reissue by industrial dance artists USSR Ministry of Culture State Chorus and includes "Just Like You" and "We Believe."
Recording information: 08/28/1985-08/29/1985.
It's been said time and time again -- although Ministry almost single-handedly launched industrial metal in the late '80s (especially with 1988's The Land of Rape and Honey and 1989's The Mind Is a Terrible Thing to Taste), Al Jourgensen and company began as an electro dance band earlier in the decade. An album falling under the latter style is 1986's Twitch, which the bandmembers have voiced dissatisfaction with over the years, as they wanted the release to be harder-edged. Ministry's wish was granted in 2004 with the release of Twitched, a re-release of Twitch that includes versions supposedly closer to what the group originally wanted (plus bonus tracks). While nothing here is exactly on par with such industrial metal classics as "Stigmata" or "Thieves," you can certainly see that the seeds for future triumphs are planted on the album-opening "Just Like You" and the Nine Inch Nails-esque "We Believe." Although Twitched was released supposedly without Ministry's consent, longtime fans will surely enjoy this "sonic stepping stone," which does manage to improve on the original. ~ Greg Prato
