Mid-'60s work by the great blues shouter and harp wizard James Cotton, probably recorded in Chicago. Essentially, this is a studio representation of the Cotton band's stage act at the time, and as such it's a prime document of '60s blues.
Highpoints include authoritative takes on Cotton's mentor Sonny Boy Williamson "Don't Start Me Talkin'," as well as the equally seminal Little Walter instrumental "Off the Wall," and (perhaps hedging his commercial bets) Eddie Floyd's "Knock on Wood." Incidentally, if you believe that reverb, like matter, can neither be created or destroyed, than this album, which sounds like it was recorded during an all night jam session at the bottom of the LaBrea Tar Pits, is especially recommended.
録音 : ステレオ (Studio)
