Puerto Rican songstress Ednita Nazario fuses the accessibility and romantic high drama of Celine Dion with an earthy melancholy and sultry subtlety that recalls Toni Braxton and 1970s pop chanteuses such as Helen Reddy and Roberta Flack. On POR TI, Ednita turns in a relaxed set of ballads and mid-tempo grooves that highlight her sexy, heart-on-the-sleeve delivery. Though she works primarily with songwriters known for their pop sheen (Ricky Martin, Luis Fonsi, Desmond Child, etc.), Ednita imbues the entire collection with an easy-flowing, organic feel. In fact, one of the album's best tracks is a Nazario-penned song called "Cansada de Estar Cansada," which sounds like an updated version of a Byrds song. With Ednita's soothing Spanish vocals and smart pop arrangements, POR TI is a superbly crafted album of enjoyable adult contemporary music.
