This is a generous 25-track sampler from Trojan Records of John Holt's mid-period output, including versions of "The Tide Is High" and "Wear You to the Ball," as well as the big British hit, Holt's cover of Kris Kristofferson's "Help Me Make It Through the Night," which, with its smooth arrangement and thick strings, belied Holt's solid ability as a singer of roots reggae. There are more comprehensive anthologies spanning longer periods of John Holt's career available, certainly, but for a single-disc covering his strongest decade, Help Me Make It Through the Night does very nicely. ~ Steve Leggett
