It's not often remix albums come out over two years after the originals, but it took that long for Cleopatra Records' dance imprint Hypnotic to release Funkstar de Luxe's Keep on Moving: De Luxe Remix. De Luxe has a knack for remixing the merely soulful into stomping guilty pleasure dancefloor fillers and the album collects them all. Public domain Bob Marley tracks get two pounding workouts, with "Rainbow Country" ending up the more satisfying. De Luxe's take on Grace Jones' slinky "Pull Up to the Bumper" is near perfect, and "She's a Lady," with a house beat, is campy fun of the highest order. The other big-name tunes are less pleasing and de Luxe's excess rudely gets in the way of Barry White's deep soul on "Let the Music Play." "Walkin' in the Name..." and "Sunshine Reggae Party 2000" show that de Luxe has a hard time coming up with much on his own. [A bonus DVD includes four videos.] ~ David Jeffries
