Chicago house music DJ Derrick Carter's contribution to the Azuli record label's excellent mix series samples a double CD's worth of cuts from disco's last quarter-century, including the exotic 1980s dance music of Kid Creole and the Coconuts, and Coati Mundi, whose "(Que Pasa) Me No Pop I" is a highlight, as well as the Staple Singers' version of Talking Heads' "Slippery People." Carter's respect for and deep knowledge of the music is obvious, and his own musical background is laid bare in his selection of tracks like Rick James's "Big Time" and '80s British electro-pop outfit Yazoo's "Situation."
