Since the release of Organik, Robert Miles seemed to hang up the wide-angle trance of his hit "Children" and focus on releasing music that's more challenging and esoteric. It's a great move since Miles has a knack for atmosphere, and the remixers on Organik Remixes notice it. Tracks come and go with few melodies to latch onto, but it doesn't seem to matter when a whole slew of well-constructed and innovative sounds fall out the speakers. Organik gets quite a work over with only traces of exotic instruments left over and ends up more paranoid and jarring than the original. Si Begg, 2nd Gen, and the Fabrics make Miles sound especially freaky and deviceful, while Riton paint him as the older brother of Red Snapper. The Future Sound of London mix is a letdown, but the two remixers that were chosen from an Internet contest (Kuzu and Fissure) hold their own against the superstars. Two CDs long, disc two is far better, and the whole thing could have fit on one had the enhanced video been left off. Minor quibble for a collection this good. ~ David Jeffries
