Groovie Ghoulies includes: Kepi (vocals); Roach (guitar); B-Face (bass). Fun in the Dark, the fifth album from the Sacramento-based Groovie Ghoulies, includes their usual mix of Ramones-style bop (the 13 songs here barely clock in at a half-hour) and horror movie kitsch ("She might be considered bats," sings Kepi of his "Vampire Girl"). There are also songs about such pop-culture subjects as Carly Simon and the disease-spreading monkey from Outbreak. And they give Sonny Bono's "Laugh at Me" a faithfully sincere spin. The three-chords-and-you're-outta-here blasts become a bit routine by the end, but it's such a blitzkrieg of punk-pop fun (and Fun in the Dark is the Ghoulies' best album), you'll hardly care. ~ Michael Gallucci
