C-Murder's follow-up to 2001's C-P-3.COM is likely to be overshadowed by his arrest for, uh, murder, following a warrant being issued for his arrest for a separate, um, attempted murder. Which is presumably why he's not called C-Mail Fraud. With its featured roster of guest appearances by such luminaries as Snoop Dogg, Murder's brothers Master P and Silkk the Shocker, and Jermaine Dupri, TRU DAWGS is not so much a C-Murder album as a gesture of solidarity from the beleaguered rapper's true believers, and as such it's not half bad. "Dogged Her Out" features a useful herky-jerky rhythm and insistent chorus, while "Ain't No Pimpin'" plumbs Chic retro territory underpinning its tried and tested subject matter, and the title track counts off Murder's dawgs in a call to arms. Whether TRU DAWGS has a follow-up is a matter for the Louisiana court system, but either way presumably C-Murder won't be hurting for material for a while to come.
