Totti Bergh is a swinging tenor saxophonist from Scandinavia whose tone is quite reminiscent of Zoot Sims. Teamed up with two Americans (trombonist George Masso and bassist Major Holley) and a couple of Scandinavians (pianist Egil Kapstad and drummer Pelle Hulten), Bergh and his quintet perform seven standards plus the straightforward "Major Blues" on this enjoyable LP. Holley, who contributes several of his trademark singing bass solos, would pass away less than three months later, so this was one of his final sessions. All of the musicians are in fine form on such numbers as "Robbin's Nest," "Walkin'" and "Jive at Five," making this an album (from the Norway-based Gemini label) easily recommended to mainstream jazz collectors. ~ Scott Yanow
