Heiko Laux's Sense Fiction full-length found the German techno artist experimenting with live instrumentation in hopes of achieving a more "musical" result. He's obviously influenced by jazz here, and you can also sense that he's trying to break away from the traditional 4/4 rhythms often associated with techno. As a result, this is one of Laux's more interesting projects and also one of his less traditional; therefore, it's probably not the best starting point for those who aren't already familiar with his previous work, such as the Liquidism album. This is more of a listening album than something for the dancefloor, so DJs may also wish to take heed. Remixes of this project by a number of producers such as Surgeon, Diego, and DJ Slip followed, initially released as three separate EPs and then later compiled on the Sense Fiction Remixed album. ~ Jason Birchmeier
