   For anyone sho wonders why you can't find the sort of soul album
　　that Curtis Mayfield used to make -here it is.

☆HIGH VIOLET -The National
  My favourite band of the last couple of years
  -great songs, fantastic voice

☆WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE -Original Soundtrack
  Infectious, original, eccentric, and much too good for kids.
  *訳：くせになっちゃうし、独特で、奇抜。子供たちにはもったいないぐらい。

☆DECORATION DAY -The Drive-By Truckers
  All this band's albums contain a handful of great songs,
  but this is probably my favourite -and you could turn just about
  any of the lyrics into a movie.

☆THE FINANCIAL LIVES OF THE POETS -Jess Walter
  My Favourite novel of the year so far, I think,
  funny, sad, and very timely.
  訳：これまでのところ今年1番お気に入りの小説。おかしくて、悲しくて、そしてとてもタイムリー。

☆THE GIANT HOUSE -elizabeth McCracken
  McCracken is one of the best contemporary writers we have,
  and this books is a modern classic.
  訳：マクラケンは最も素晴らしい現代文学作家のひとり。この本はモダンクラシック。

☆BROOKLYN -Colm Toibin
  Simple, understated, and profoundly moving. You won't be able to
  work out how Toibin cut into you so deep, without you noticing.
  訳：シンプルで控え目だけど、心底感動する。読んでみると知らずと奥深いところ
　　　まで連れて行かれる本だと思うよ。

☆SCENES FROM A REVOLUTION -Mark Harris
  A brilliantly-reserched book about the five films nominated for
  Best Picture in 1967, and the best book about Hollywood I've ever read.
  訳：1967年のアカデミー賞作品賞についてとてもよくリサーチされた本。しかもぼくが
　　　読んだハリウッドに関する本の中ではベストだよ。

☆THE BOYS LIFE -Tobias Woolf
  Woolf's memoir made me want to write; I suspect that it has
  served as a similar inspiration for hundreds of other young people.
　訳：ウルフのメモワールを読むとぼくも書きたくなるんだ。多くの若い人たちが
　　　そんな風に影響を受ける本じゃないかな。
