合唱王国イギリスが世界に誇る至上のハーモニー、ザ・シックスティーンの新シリーズ、夭折の巨匠ヘンリー・パーセルの「王室行事のための作品集」の第2巻は「チャールズII世」がテーマ!王室の弦楽合唱団の常任作曲家兼指揮者、王室付きの楽器管理者、宮廷礼拝堂のオルガニストなどの要職を歴任し、国王が首都に帰還した際の王室行事や儀式で演奏するための「歓迎歌(ウェルカム・ソング)」や「頌歌(オード)」によってその地位と名声を高めたパーセル。1660年にイングランド議会を解散した後、翌1661年にイングランド王に即位し、共和制の終焉と王政復古期の始まりを呼んだチャールズII世のために作曲された「いざ、全能の王の代理人を迎えんZ.340」は、パーセルにとって宮廷での最初の頌歌(オード)の1つであり、その後の成功を飛躍を決定付けた代表作の1つとして知られています。「パレストリーナ」や「ビクトリア」、「ヘンデル」と並ぶザ・シックスティーンの代名詞である「パーセル」。2018年現在のイギリスを代表する世界最高峰の合唱団によるパーセルの名唱にご期待下さい。
