The Four Seasons were a top-notch hitmaking machine in the early to mid-'60s, thanks in part to Frankie Valli's high, soaring lead vocals and the songwriting and arranging skills of Bob Gaudio, and if they never got the critical attention afforded to hipper groups like the Beatles and the Beach Boys, the best of the Four Seasons' singles are undisputed pop classics. Unfortunately, this ragtag collection doesn't really do the group justice, and while some of the songs included here, like "Sherry" and "Big Girls Don't Cry" were hits, most of these selections weren't and it all adds up to a pretty average (at best) representation of this fine vocal group. ~ Steve Leggett|
